Frequently Asked Questions

We welcome all questions you might have about our Pack. Here are a few common questions parents have about joining and being active in Pack 32. Please also go visit the Boy Scouts of America National Council Frequently Asked Questions page for more general information on Scouting.
  1. Does my son have to be a student at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School to join your Pack?

Not at all. While many of the scouts in Pack 32 do also attend St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Pack 32 is quite large and is filled with boys from all over the area.

  2. Do we have to be Catholic to participate in your Pack?

No. Membership requirements are no different from any other Pack.

It should be noted, however, that in addition to the Youth Protection Training program utilized by the Boys Scouts of Ameria that all adults wishing to take on a Scouter role (Den Leader, Asst. Den Leader, etc.) MUST also complete the Keeping Kids Safe program administered by the Diocese of Fort Worth.

  3. I'm confused by all this terminology. What is a council? What's a district? Help!

It may be simplest to work our way down from top to bottom.

The Boy Scouts organization is broken into geographically separated Councils. Our Council is the Longhorn Council #662 and spans from Waco to Denton. You will note that all of our scouts wear the Longhorn Council patch on their left sleeve.

Councils are broken into Districts. Our District is Mustang District #36 and this encompasses roughly the Fort Worth area (see this map). The District is comprised of Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, and Venturing Crews.

We are a Cub Scout Pack #32, chartered by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School but we do not limit membership to students of the school or even to SEAS parishioners. We are open to any boy between 1st and 5th grade interested in joining our Pack. Pack 32 currently has approximately 93 Cub Scouts.

Packs are divided into Dens. A den consists of approximately 8 boys of the same grade working to achieve the same rank. You can determine what den a scout is in by the den patch on his right sleeve.

  4. How do I make sure I get all the right uniform items together?

When you are assigned to a den, the Den Leader will be able to help you sort out what you need. In addition to a uniform, there is a Cub Scout Handbook for each rank your son will go through.

  5. My son won't be starting in 1st grade (the first year a boy can get into scouting). Will he be able to catch up with the other boys?

Certainly. No matter how old a new scout is, he must first earn his Bobcat badge. Parent and child will learn the ropes of being a Cub Scout together and after finishing the badge requirements he will be "caught up" enough to work with his den towards the next badge just like everyone else.
